A RunCloud alternative built for Laravel and Node apps
RunCloud manages PHP servers, with tooling for WordPress, from $9 a month for one server. Its atomic deployment starts at Business, $49 a month. Provisore has atomic releases on every plan, Node as a runtime of its own, and Ubuntu 26.04 and 24.04 LTS. RunCloud with atomic deployment costs less at 20 servers and more at 1, 3, 5 and 10 servers.
When RunCloud is the better choice
You run WordPress
RunCloud has WordPress tooling Provisore does not: RunCache, the WordPress Toolkit, Magic Login and staging environments.
You want the most servers per dollar
Professional covers up to 50 servers for $19 a month. RunCloud costs less at 1, 5, 10 and 20 servers and more at 3 servers.
You want backups on the entry plan
RunCloud backs up web apps and databases on every plan, Essentials included. Provisore's scheduled backups start at Pro.
You want OpenLiteSpeed, or an older Ubuntu
RunCloud runs NGINX or OpenLiteSpeed and connects Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 as well as 24.04. Provisore runs Nginx on a fresh Ubuntu 26.04 or 24.04 LTS server.
What Provisore does differently
Atomic releases on every site
Every deploy builds in a new release directory while the old one serves, then goes live with one rename. There is no deploy mode to pick when a site is created, and no plan that leaves it out.
Node as a runtime of its own
Node 22, 24 and 26, installed per site with fnm. A .nvmrc or an engines range in the repository picks the version, and the start command runs as a supervised systemd service behind Nginx.
Ubuntu 26.04 and 24.04 LTS
Both LTS releases, with every runtime on both. Provisioning hardens SSH, sets up UFW and fail2ban and turns on unattended security updates.
A health check that rolls back on its own
After the symlink switch Provisore requests the site. On a server error, a refused connection or a timeout it points the symlink back at the previous release and reloads.
Deploys that wait for GitHub checks
A site can hold each push until the commit's GitHub checks pass and then deploy exactly that commit, or skip it when a check fails. A staging site can promote the commit it runs to production.
Monitoring in the same subscription
Server metrics on every plan, then alert rules, uptime checks and log search across servers from Pro, and on-call rotations from Scale.
What it costs
The cheapest plan on each side, worked out from the published prices.
| Per month | 1 server | 3 servers | 5 servers | 10 servers | 20 servers |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Provisore | $12Solo | $12Solo | $29Pro | $29Pro | $59Scale |
| RunCloud | $9Essentials | $19Professional | $19Professional | $19Professional | $19Professional |
- RunCloud costs less at 1, 5, 10 and 20 servers and more at 3 servers.
- Counting only plans with zero-downtime deploys, RunCloud costs less at 20 servers and more at 1, 3, 5 and 10 servers.
- Counting only plans with scheduled backups, RunCloud costs less at every size from 1 server to 20 servers.
The subscription only: your provider bills the servers on every side. Provisore’s figures assume every server runs the metrics collector, because monitored servers are what the plans count. A server you only deploy to counts against nothing on Pro and Scale.
Moving from RunCloud
The migration wizard reads an existing Ubuntu machine over SSH and recreates its sites, databases, cron entries and daemons on a new Provisore server. A machine read this way has no repository or deploy script to report, so you fill those in before the first deploy. The data, the uploaded files and the DNS change are yours to move.
Frequently asked questions
Does Provisore run WordPress?
It has no WordPress tooling: no installer, cache plugin or staging copies. Its PHP runtime is built for Composer projects such as Laravel.
Can Node and PHP sites share a server?
Yes. Each site has its own runtime, its own version and its own Unix account, so a Laravel app and a Node app can run side by side on one server.
What happens when a deploy fails?
A failed build leaves the running release in place. A release that goes live and fails its health check is rolled back to the previous one.
